Autumn Term 2003: A Summary of Events.
17th Dec: The Marlborough House teams were overall winners of the
Inter-House Quiz - Well Done!
16th Dec: Boys, Staff, Parents, Governors and other visitors enjoyed a
moving Carol Service at All Saints Church today. Well Done and Thank You
to the Readers, the Choirs and the Director of Music, Andrew Biggs.
12th Dec: Many Parents and other visitors enjoyed the splendid
Nativity Plays by the children of the Kindergarten and Pre-Prep this week.
19th Nov: YHS had to be closed today because of a burst water main
that blocked the Sarratt Road causing traffic chaos.
15th Nov: Good results for our boys v. Haileybury - 1st XI drew 2-2
and the 2nd XI won 5-1.
12th Nov: A set of close games against Lochinver in which the 1st XI
lost but the 2nd XI, Colta A and Colts B were all victorious.
10th Nov: The Junior Inter-House Soccer was won by the Nelson Team.
However, on total points (Juniors + Seniors) Wellington House win the
overall trophy.
8th Nov: Thank you to the PA and helpers for organising the
excellent fireworks party.
5th Nov: Matches v. Lockers Park - 1st XI lost 4-2, 2nd XI drew 2-2,
Colts A won 4-1, Colts B won 5-0.
3rd Nov: Senior House Soccer - Drake beat Nelson, 3-2; Marlborough
beat Wellington, 4-2, so Marlborough House wins the Senior Trophy.
17th Oct: It was a pleasure for us to welcome Tom Isaacs to assembly
today - with the help of interesting slides, he told us about his amazing
charity walk around the 4500 miles of the British coast:
"Coastin"
13th Oct: The Colts played St Anthony's today and the B Team lost 4-1
but the A Team won 3-1 after being 1-0 down at the break.
10th Oct: The Juniors led the Harvest Festival Service today - many
thanks to everyone for their contributions of food for the Watford
New Hope Trust.
8th Oct: Lots of goals for YHS against St Martins today - the 2nds
lost 7-4; the 1sts won 3-1; the Colts B won 2-0; the Colts A won
4-0.
6th Oct: Friday's "Jeans for Genes" Day raised over £500,thanks to
you all.
4th Oct: The U10s played some good football today at the Berkhamsted
Tournament but didn't reach the final: v. Habs lost 3-1; v. Berkhamsted
won 2-1; v. Bedford drew 2-2.
1st Oct: An excellent performance by the Colts A XI today - the
YHS team beat Berkhamsted, 7-1.
24th Sept: The 1st XI beat St Anthony's 2-1, the 2nds lost 7-0,
and the U10s beat St George's 9-0.
22nd Sept: In the 1st Round of Soccer House Matches, Marlborough beat
Drake 5-1 and Wellington beat Nelson 10-1.
20th Sept: Although they all played well, it was a disappointing day
for our soccer teams as they were all beaten by Aldwickbury - 1st XI 4-1;
2nd XI 4-0; Colts A 3-2; Colts B 2-1.
17th Sept: A good start to the soccer season. In the matches against
St George's, the 1st XI drew 1-1, and the 2nd XI, Colts A & B teams
all won: 1-0, 6-1 and 13-0 resp.
10th Sept: Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Telfer on the birth of their
twin boys - Charles & Thomas - all doing well!
5th Sept: We have welcomed several new pupils this week - we hope
that they have enjoyed their introduction to the school.

Summer
Term 2003: A Summary of Events.
5th July: Many thanks to our speaker, Simon Evers, for an entertaining
Speech Day; and congratulations to all the prize-winners!
4th July: The Swimming Sports were won by Wellington House today, with
Nelson 2nd, Marlborough 3rd and Drake 4th.
3rd July: The Old Yorkists beat the 1st XI in a close match this evening,
played in an excellent friendly spirit - James scored a half-century!.
2nd July: The 1st & 2nd XIs drew their games against Lockers Park, but the
Colts A & B Teams both won!
28th June:The Athletics Sports were won by Nelson House today, with Marlborough 2nd,
Wellington 3rd and Drake 4th.
25th June: The Colts did well today - both A and B XIs beat Davenies
School teams. The 1st & 2nd XIs drew their matches.
21st June: The Colts XI beat the Berkhamsted Under XI Cricket Team;
Jack scored a half-century. Well done boys!
18th June: In the Cricket Finals, Nelson beat Drake and Wellington beat
Marlborough, leading to the results - Nelson 1st, Drake 2nd, Wellington 3rd,
and Marlborough 4th.
16th June: London Area Athletics - many of our athletes achieved personal
best results and Max gained a place in the National Finals on 29th June -
Well Done!.
14th June: Another difficult day for the cricketers - 1st & 2nd XIs both
lost their games but the Colts XI managed a draw, all against Aldwickbury.
12th June: Junior Inter-House Cricket - 1st Nelson; 2nd Drake; 3rd
Marlborough; 4th Wellington.
The Form VIII boys have achieved many splendid results in the Common
Entrance Examination Papers, and all have gained places in their chosen
senior schools - Well Done!
11th June: In the first round of House Matches, Drake beat Marlborough
and Nelson beat Wellington - Tom E. scored 77 runs.
21st May: St John's teams (that included several County players)
proved to be too strong for the YHS Cricket teams today - only the
Colts A managed to force a draw.
14th May: A disappointing day for our cricket teams, mainly due to dropped
catches - only the Colts A managing to achieve a draw against St Martins.
7th May: 1st and Colts XI both drew their games against St George's
today. 1st's Captain, Harry Clabon took 7 for 27.
2nd May: Our Swimming Team came 2nd in the match against Aldwickbury today.
25th April: Update - Miss Barsby's marathon run has raised OVER £2000
for Sparks - a magnificent achievement!
13th April: Miss Barsby ran the London Marathon in 4 hours 45 minutes:

Spring
Term 2003: A Summary of Events.
27th Mar: The Nelson House Team won the Inter-House Debating
Competition today.
25th & 26th Mar: Well done to all involved in entertaining the audiences
of around 200 each night with accomplished performances of "The Wind in
the Willows".
19th Mar: Our Colts B Rugby Team lost against Aldwickbury in a very
close game, 7 - 14.
15th Mar: Congratulations to Oliver on achieving the Top Scholarship
to Berkhamsted School!
13th Mar: Great performances from our X-Country runners - A Team 2nd and
B Team 1st, with Matthew and Charlie W achieving Silver and Bronze Medals.
Well done, boys!
12th Mar: The Colts B XII suffered a comprehensive defeat by St George's
today, 0-54.
8th Mar: Both the 1st XV and Colts XIIA lost their rugby matches in close
encounters against Aldwickbury today.
7th Mar: Inter-House Debate, 1st Round - Marlborough beat Wellington and
Nelson beat Drake.
5th Mar: Wellington House won the Inter-House Rugby Sevens Tournament
today.
3rd Mar: St Martins U13 Sevens - the York House team achieved 3rd place
and brought home the Plate Shield - well done, boys!
1st Mar: Keble X-Country - Juniors 4th of 17, Intermediates 5th of 12,
and Seniors 4th of 12 (Alex 3rd).
28th Feb: St Martins Road Relay - U.11 Team 2nd (medals for Charlie,
3rd and Matthew 6th); Over 11 Team 4th (medals for Toby 2nd and
Alex 6th)
26th Feb: Rugby v. Lochinver - Although our 1st XV lost their close game,
15-25, both Colts teams won, A Team 13-7 and B Team 51-0. Well done,
boys!
25th Feb: All our boys who sat the recent examinations have achieved
good results and have been offered places at Senior Schools - Berkhamsted,
Aldenham, Haberdashers, or Merchant Taylors.
Congratulations to Anthony and Zahid who both gained MTS Scholarships.
Well done!
12th Feb: A good day for rugby v. St Martin's - the 2nds lost their close
game 5-10, but the other teams all won their matches: 1st XV 19-5, Colts A
0-5 and Colts B 5-12. Well done, boys!
7th Feb: Thomas Eaton appointed Head Boy - Congratulations Thomas!
6th Feb: Lambrook-Haileybury Cross Country - YHS 5th out of 11 schools;
Matthew 7th and Toby 15th out of about 90 runners.
5th Feb: Rugby v. St George's - Colts B postponed (ice on the pitch);
Colts A won 35-7; 1st XV lost 5-7.
Fri 31st Jan: Normal school was disrupted by the heavy snow and icy
conditions last night and today. Saturday school is cancelled.
29th Jan: All our teams faced strong opposition in St John's today
and we lost our games - U13A: 38-0, Colts A: 10-12, and Colts B: 0-21
27th Jan: The York House boys did well in the Cross Country today, winning
overall; Toby was 1st in the Senior race and Matthew 3rd in the Junior race -
Well Done!
17th Jan: Incredibly, the Inter-House Cross Country was a draw!
Marlborough and Nelson both achieved 350 points.
Last term's charity collections for the Watford Peace Hospice and "Coastin" have
raised almost £4000! Thanks to you all for your generosity.
